Having tile flooring is something that many people like, but it can present a few issues. For example, if you’re trying to use rugs on tile floors, then you might notice that they will keep slipping.

This can be a nuisance and you might even find it to be a bit dangerous if you’re trying to walk on a rug. What can you do to keep this from happening?

Read on to learn how to keep rugs from slipping on the tile. This should give you the best options that will allow you to enjoy your rugs on tile flooring without needing to worry.

1 – Buy Rugs with Rubber Backing

Some rugs come with a rubber backing that makes it so that they’re less likely to slip. If you buy rugs that are like this, then they will be easier to use on tile floors.

Consider the rugs that you’re buying when you know that you have tile flooring. Doing so might allow you to use the rugs just fine without having to do anything else to them.

If you have rugs that don’t have this backing, then all isn’t lost. You can still do some things to make it easier to use the rugs as normal on tile floors.

2 – Use Non-Slip Pads

One of the most practical things that you can do is use non-slip pads for your rugs. You should be able to buy non-slip pads that you can attach to the rugs or simply place under the rugs.

Measuring your rugs will be the best way to get started because you want to buy non-slip pads that have the same dimensions. Once you have the right size, it’ll be easy to get things going.

You might need to adjust the rug a little bit to get things right, but you should try walking on the rug once you’re confident that the non-slip pad is in place. Attempt to walk on the rug gently to see if it starts slipping.

Aggressive walking is more likely to make a rug slip on tile flooring, and this means that you might need to be a bit more careful with how you’re walking. Even with the non-slip pads in place, it’s not going to be impossible for the rug to move since it’s placed on a slick surface.

3 – Rug Grippers Can Work Too

Rug grippers are going to be worth trying out as well. These might be easier to use in some ways since they’re designed to go in the corners of your rugs.

You don’t have to worry so much about meticulous measuring when you go with rug grippers. Just place the rug grippers in the corner of your rug and they should be good to go.

There are rug grippers that have an adhesive that will attach them to the bottom of the rug, but not all of them are like that. Some are designed to work just like the non-slip pads mentioned above.

4 – Carpet Tape

Carpet tape could be a good idea because it’s easy to use and does the job. To use this method, you just want to turn your rug upside down and cut strips of carpet tape to stick to the rug.

To get good results, you can cut strips of carpet tape that are four inches in length. You place the sticky side of the tape in each of the corners.

Cut some more carpet tape and put some in the center of the rug. When you’re ready, you can peel the backing off of the strips of tape so that you can lay your rug down.

Try to position the rug where you want it to be and lay it flat so that it won’t have wrinkles. If all goes as planned, your rug shouldn’t move because the tape will keep it stuck to the floor.

5 – Silicone Caulk

Some people have used silicone caulk to get similar results to the carpet tape mentioned above. The idea here is to put squiggly lines of silicone caulk on the back of your rug.

You’ll load a tube of silicone caulk into a caulk gun and then try to make parallel squiggly lines on the back of the rug. This will take a bit of time, but it should make it so that the rug will be covered nicely.

Next, you should press the caulk into the rug before it has time to dry. This caulk needs to sit for about one hour before it will dry, and this means that you’ll have enough time to press it in even if you’re not fast.

Place the rug where you want it to be on the floor and then walk on it a bit so that the caulk can settle. It should keep the rug in place on the floor from now on so long as you did a good job with the caulking.

6 – Hold the Rug Down with Something Heavy

Another trick that people often use involves using something heavy to hold area rugs down on tile floors. For example, you could place a coffee table on top of the rug so that it won’t move.

The only real problem with this is that it might not be practical for every type of rug. If you have runners that you’re trying to place in a hall, then putting furniture or other things on the rug won’t be possible.

Rugs that are being placed in living spaces will be able to be held in place with heavy objects easily, though. Consider when you can just hold a rug in place using furniture items and when you’ll need to use the methods listed above.

Remember to Be Careful

Remember to be careful with your rugs when you’re putting them on tile floors. Tile flooring can be great, but it can also cause you to slip and fall if you aren’t careful.

The methods listed above should make it easier for you to use rugs on tile floors, but it won’t always be perfect. If you aren’t walking carefully, then it’s always possible that you could cause a rug to shift.

You know what to do now, though, and this should make it a lot simpler for you. There’s no reason why you can’t utilize rugs when you have tile flooring.

Enjoy your rugs and your tile flooring together. If you take the right steps, then you shouldn’t have nearly as many issues with your rugs slipping moving forward.
