Spending some quality time just relaxing on the couch can be a very great thing at the end of a long day. What isn’t so great is when your couch cushions keep sliding while you’re trying to stream your favorite shows.
Some couches seem to have cushions that just slide too much when you shift your body weight, and you might be rather annoyed by this.
Examine the information below so that you can learn how to keep your couch cushions from sliding. If you know the right methods to take, then it shouldn’t be too difficult to solve this issue.
You’ll be able to focus on relaxing on your couch instead of having to worry about messing with the couch cushions.
1 – Use Velcro Strips
Velcro strips might wind up being the answer to your couch cushion sliding problems.
Many people have solved this problem by just placing Velcro strips on the bottom of their couch cushions. The Velcro strips can keep the cushions connected to the couch itself so that they will not move around so much.
In fact, some retail couches will come with Velcro strips already installed. It isn’t unusual for these strips to be utilized in various types of furniture, and you’ll find them being used on chairs or other types of living room furniture all the time.
It’s also good to know that installing Velcro strips will be decidedly easy if you decide to go this route.
You just need to purchase some Velcro strips that are around 10 or 15 centimeters in length. These Velcro strips will be attached to the bottom of the couch cushion as well as the couch itself.
Some people also place Velcro strips on the back of the cushion to give it some extra holding power.
It probably isn’t necessary to do two strips, but it could make the couch cushions even more secure if you decide to do it.
Regardless, you’re going to find that this method works marvelously and that it’s easy to get it done. If you want a practical solution to your couch cushion sliding issue, then this is likely it.
For the easiest installation process, you’ll likely want to utilize fabric tape that is meant for couches. Some people do decide to sew Velcro strips onto couches as well, but lots of them just use fabric tape.
Some Velcro strips that you can purchase will come with certain types of adhesive as well, and this means that you can just place them when you’re ready, but it depends on what you purchase.
2 – Hooks and Rings
You can use hooks and rings to accomplish the same thing that you will with the Velcro idea mentioned above.
Essentially, you’re going to connect hooks to your couch cushions that will slot into rings on the couch. This prevents the couch cushions from sliding forward because they’re being held in place by the rings.
The installation method is going to be a bit more involved when you want to use hooks and rings, though. It still isn’t going to be all that hard to do, but you’re going to need to sew the hooks and rings to little pieces of fabric that can then be sewed onto the couch and couch cushions.
Once this is done, you’ll be able to get things hooked up so that your couch cushions will stop sliding.
If you want to get the best results, then it’s recommended that you use a plastic hook for this. You wouldn’t want a metal hook to rip or tear your couch cushions when you’re moving around on the couch.
A plastic hook is going to be quite a bit safer on average.
3 – Non-Slip Rubber Lining
Another interesting idea that won’t involve you having to do much at all is to use a non-slip rubber lining. This is going to be easy for you to just place underneath your couch cushions.
The non-slip rubber lining should prevent your couch cushions from sliding forward so much, and you won’t have to install anything to get this to work.
If the reason that your cushions have been sliding is that the couch material is a bit slippery, then this should work out pretty well.
It might not be quite as effective for people who just move and shift a lot while they’re lounging on the couch. Basically, your mileage may vary with this method depending on certain circumstances.
The good news is that this method is incredibly simple to try out, and you won’t have to pay much money to get non-slip rubber lining. You’ll just need to buy enough of it so that it will fit your entire couch.
If you want something that is easy to do, then trying this method out makes a lot of sense.
4 – Use a Couch Cover
Putting a couch cover over the top of your couch should keep the cushions from being able to slide out by default.
Lots of people use couch covers as a way to protect their couches, too. You can buy couch covers that are made out of various materials, and it shouldn’t be hard to get a comfortable one that looks nice enough for your living room.
It’s also worth noting that many couch covers have little drawstrings at the bottom that will allow you to tighten things up. You can pull on those drawstrings to ensure that your couch is wrapped up tightly, and this should really keep your couch cushions from being able to move around.
The only downside to this is that some people don’t like the look of couch covers, and others might worry that the couch cover will limit the comfort of the couch.
One of the best reasons to consider purchasing a couch cover is that it’s a simple fix to your couch cushion sliding issue. It’s probably even easier than placing non-slip rubber mats underneath the couch cushions because you won’t need to worry about getting the right length of material.
All you have to do is ensure that you buy a couch cover that is big enough to fit the specific couch that you own.
That being said, not all couch cushion sliding issues have been completely solved by couch covers. If your couch covers are very slippery, then you might feel them shift a bit underneath you while you’re sitting down still.
This could be mitigated by tightening the couch cover up, but you might still have some minor issues depending on how things go.
Completely Preventing Your Couch Cushions From Sliding Might Not Be Possible
It might not be possible to completely prevent your couch cushions from sliding at all. Some people might lament this fact, but it kind of is what it is.
When you’re sitting on your couch and moving around, it’s going to cause your couch cushions to move a little bit.
If you use the methods mentioned above, then you should be able to make the sliding of the cushions less of an issue.
Both the Velcro method and the hook method are very good at keeping couch cushions in place. Just know that you might notice some movement even if your couch cushions aren’t sliding around as much as they used to.
Now that you know how to tackle this problem, you’ll be able to choose the right method that will work for your situation. Some might prefer an easy fix such as buying a couch cover or placing a rubber non-slip mat between the cushions and the couch.
Just go with whatever you think will work best for your couch, and you’ll surely have a better time lounging around moving forward.
